Edisto Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that serves the Orangeburg County area by working with families to build and improve places to call home. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. Our purpose is to bring people together to build homes, foster community, and create opportunities for growth.

We partner with volunteers, donors, local businesses, corporations, sponsors, partner organizations, in-kind donors, educational institutions, foundations, and grant providers to build the capacity to address the substandard housing conditions that many people in our community face.

Our History

Since 1991, Edisto Habitat for Humanity has served Orangeburg County to improve our communities and the lives of others by providing safe and affordable housing. Through faith, innovation, and passion, and thanks to the support of countless community partners, volunteers, donors, and advocates, Edisto Habitat for Humanity has significantly impacted Orangeburg County since its founding.
Volunteers Celebrate the 92nd Home
For over 30 years, we have had the support of our donors, volunteers, faith-based organizations, local business owners, educational institutes, in-kind gifts, sponsors, and community partners, who allow us to continue our work.

Edisto Habitat for Humanity partners with people in our community to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With your support, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to create a better life for themselves and their families.

The families we partner with are the heart of our program. They work hard, putting in 250 - 350 hours of 'sweat equity' to help build their new home. They also attend financial education and home repair classes, showing their commitment to their future. As they pay off their affordable mortgage, they're not just buying a house, they're helping pay it forward to others in need of shelter.

Homeownership is not just about having a roof over your head. It's the foundation of a bright future. A safe, decent home gives a family the opportunity to invest in education, live in healthier environments, have financial stability, and much more. By supporting Edisto Habitat for Humanity, you're not just helping families live in a safe, decent home, you're helping them build a better future.

We work to eliminate barriers to a better, healthier, more financially stable life.

Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone deserves a safe, healthy place to call home, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in over 1,000 communities throughout the U.S. and in over 70 countries.  In that time, more than 22 million people worldwide have partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home.
