New Construction

Newly Constructed Habitat Homes

Edisto Habitat for Humanity builds new construction homes in Orangeburg County and sells them to individuals at a low to zero-interest mortgage.

The support of our donors, volunteers, faith-based organizations, local business owners, educational institutes, in-kind gifts, sponsors, and community partners help to fund and build the homes.

Our houses are...
  • Safe
    • Habitat homes are built to standards that provide families with a durable home that will last a lifetime. The health and overall well-being of the family are driving forces in the pride and attention to detail taken in building our homes.
  • Respectable
    • Our homes reflect the surrounding community. Made to be modest sizes, they are large enough for the family's needs yet small enough to keep construction and maintenance costs to a minimum.
  • Affordable
    • Thanks to the hundreds of hours of labor from volunteers and partner families, combined with our focus on modest size and energy efficiency, families can purchase Habitat houses at an affordable monthly mortgage. Your support is the key to this affordability, giving families the security of a home they can truly call their own.

The Homeownership Program

Our Homeownership Program is designed to be accessible to qualified low-to-moderate-income individuals and families who cannot qualify for a conventional loan.

It is essential to know that the Habitat Homeownership Program does not give homes away, and Habitat homes are not free. Habitat homeowners make monthly payments at approximately 30% of the buyer/owner's gross income. The monthly payment includes the mortgage, property taxes, and homeowner's insurance.

Our Homeownership Program is a community effort. By working closely with volunteers, families, individuals, corporations, congregations, and donors, we can address this critical housing issue throughout Orangeburg County. Each contribution is vital, and we work together to make homeownership possible for these hardworking families and individuals. Learn about the details of becoming a homeowner.

Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone deserves a safe, healthy place to call home, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in over 1,000 communities throughout the U.S. and in over 70 countries.  In that time, more than 22 million people worldwide have partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home.
