Our Economic Impact

The economic impact of housing affordability can start a ripple effect for an entire community.
When families spend less on housing, they have more to spend on goods and services. These transactions fuel community-wide economic growth by bolstering local businesses and our local workforce. They also contribute to the local tax base, which gets invested back into the community through government programs and infrastructure improvements—resources that benefit everyone.

Access to affordable housing in Orangeburg County leaves little opportunity for our residents to thrive. No one should have to choose between paying rent or putting food on the table. When living expenses are 30% or more of your monthly income, it isn't easy to find stability.

Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone deserves a safe, healthy place to call home, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in over 1,000 communities throughout the U.S. and in over 70 countries.  In that time, more than 22 million people worldwide have partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home.
